About Me
I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan where I grew up and attended Kenowa Hills Public Schools. I grew up in a "teaching" family so being surrounded by the profession has not only cultivated my passion for teaching but has also continued to reaffirm it. I have been fortunate enough to work in diverse school settings such as Kenowa Hills Public Schools, Lansing Public Schools, and Grand Rapids Public Schools. I am currently a first grade teacher in Grand Ledge Public Schools, a suburb of the Lansing Area. One of my beliefs as a teacher is that it is important that my students experience the most genuine version of myself, so they can come to know me as who I am. I believe that same belief should carry over to my portfolio. Here is a quick glimpse into my life and who I am. I love to spend time with my family: mother, father, and younger sister, and my friends. Some of my hobbies include: reading, playing the piano, and golfing. I enjoy spending my summers at the beach and on the golf course. Some of my favorite subjects in school were: reading, writing, and social studies. |
Student Teaching
As part of Michigan State's nationally ranked teacher preparation program, I completed a year long internship at C.A. Frost Environmental Science Academy, part of Grand Rapids Public Schools. I had the opportunity to student teach in a second grade classroom from the first day of school until the end of April. By completing this year long internship, I was able to experience setting rules and expectations for my classroom to watching my students grow as learners. My time at C.A. Frost has allowed me to work with students from all different walks of life. By being an environmental themed school as well, it has taught me a great deal about incorporating environmental focuses into my teaching and strategies to help assist my students' learning through using inquiry based teaching.
